Supporting the Third Sector in Accessing Funding through Youth Contracts 2012

Dear Colleagues,

Skills Third Sector and Fair Train invite you to a joint conference on the 8th February 2012  in central London to provide third sector organisations with practical knowledge, information and debate around improved access to funding for employers through the new Youth Contracts 2012.

The conference will explore the following:

  • Tackling  youth unemployment and the role of the sector
  • Opportunities around newly available funding and incentives and how the sector can access them
  • The place of apprenticeships in all of this and the added value of specialist third sector qualification frameworks
  • Launch of the Fair Train bursary scheme

Please add this date to your diary. More details on the final programme will follow in early January.

Skills - Third Sector is the first Champion organisation for Leadership 20:20 Commission

Dear Simon,

We are delighted to be the first Champion organisation to deliver the Leadership 20:20 Commission’s vision on ways to engage future civil society leaders.

The Leadership 20:20 Commission, which is hosted by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), has launched five challenging recommendations on what needs to be done to engage a new generation of civil society leaders. Each recommendation will be delivered by a Champion organisation, and we have been chosen to deliver the ‘development framework’.

The development framework will help future leaders develop their skills through a rich mix of opportunities that enhance and consolidate their practice. It will include both formal training recommendations and advice on informal development opportunities such as pairing established leaders with emerging leaders, mentoring and coaching, secondments, and organisations working together on staff development programmes.

At today’s launch at a Civil Society APPG reception in the House of Commons, the Commission’s President, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Skills - Third Sector as a Champion for our recommendation on a sector-wide development framework. I look forward to working with them, and the rest of our Champions, in implementing these recommendations.”

Keith Mogford, our chief executive said: “I’m delighted that Skills - Third Sector has been invited to act as the Champion for this welcome and exciting initiative.  There is an emerging consensus that more can and should be done to support the development and progression of potential leaders in the sector.  We’ll want to work closely with all and any interested parties in 2012 to construct a development framework that is bespoke to the sector, incorporating both formal and informal development activity.”
