news - BBC 'First Click' Campaign

If you have a remit to help people get online, then being part of a new BBC campaign could be a great way to get more people through your doors and learning internet skills.

(please note that if you’re an existing UK online centre, please register your event with UK online centres and not via the BBC First Click campaign. The BBC and UK online centres are working together to ensure that all UK online centre events are promoted via their resources and phone line.)

Using the internet can help people save money, stay up-to-date with news, keep in touch with family, find a job, enjoy hobbies and interests and generally make life easier. Yet millions of people (most aged 65+) are still not online

A new BBC campaign called 'First Click' will inspire and support people to use the internet for the first time. It launches during Get Online Week, 18th -28th October 2010.

The campaign will show that getting online is simpler than you think, and there is somewhere in your local area that you can go to get support.

How will we get people online?

  • Television trails seen by 32.5 million adults
  • BBC free phone helpline providing and advice and signposting to local courses or events
  • Step by Step free guides for the public

If you have a remit to help people get online, being part of the campaign is a great way to get more people through your doors and using the internet. There are two ways you can get involved:

  • If you already run FREE ‘get online’ sessions, we can promote them via the BBC phone line. (After 18th Oct 2010). Sign up to get more info about this.
  • Use the new Free BBC Beginners Course to deliver introductory computer and internet sessions. The resources for this are being developed in consultation with Digital Unite, who run Silver Surfers Week and are based on audience research which shows that this older audience want step by step guidance through the basics.

We’ll promote these via the phoneline and provide you with:

  • free guidance and session plans
  • a guide to give to learners
  • branding and marketing materials.

Sign up to get more info about this

Next steps - sign up to the campaign and you will receive more information and free resources when they are available.
