 Update

  Issue 3
  21 April 2010

Welcome

Welcome to the third edition of Update, our weekly communication to Skills Funding Agency training organisations.

As explained in our last update we are currently reconfiguring our communications contact management system, so are only sending the Update directly to the senior contact we have listed for our training organisations.

However we would like to remind you that, following purdah, colleagues will be able to view all back copies and the latest version of Update on the Skills Funding Agency website every Wednesday afternoon, click here to be taken to the relevant section of our website.  We apologise for this temporary inconvenience and request that during the purdah period you forward the Update to all interested individuals.

If you have any feedback please feel free to get in touch by emailing update@skillsfundingagency.bis.gov.uk.

In this edition:

Campaign Resources Site and Skills Funding Agency brandsite

For information

From 1 April, the Campaign Resources Site (CRS) has been managed jointly by the Skills Funding Agency and the YPLA; there are two new web addresses, both of which will direct you to the appropriate CRS. The CRS contains collateral for Skills Funding Agency and Young People’s Learning Agency products such as Educational Maintenance Allowance and Skills Accounts:

·         www.ypla.gov.uk/campaignresources

·         www.skillsfundingagency.bis.gov.uk/campaignresources

If you are already registered on the CRS, your username and password will remain the same. However, if your contact details change (particularly your email address), please go to the ‘Edit Profile’ section of the CRS to update them; we can then keep you informed of any future changes to the CRS. Please note that the Apprenticeship identity guidelines, logos and other collateral have been moved from the CRS to the Apprenticeships website.

The Skills Funding Agency Logo and Brand Guidelines can be downloaded from our brand site: https://brand.skillsfundingagency.bis.gov.uk/. If you were a member of the Learning and Skills Council brand site your log in and password will remain the same.

If you are a new user there is a short application form to register on the brand site. It will ask you for an email address of a Skills Funding Agency ‘Sponsor’, add the email address of your Account Manager and they will authorise your request as soon as possible.

If you have any questions regarding the Skills Funding Agency brand site, or are having trouble accessing it, call 0845 377 5000.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

For information

ESOL is an increasingly important aspect of learning and training provision, highlighted by the publication of the New Approach to ESOL document by BIS in September 2009.  This new approach entails local authorities articulating their local ESOL needs with the support of local providers and partners.  To continue this work the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills have written to all local authority Chief Executives and local authority ESOL leads with an update on how they intend ESOL work to continue.

These letters can be viewed at:

·          Letter to Chief Executives

·          Letter to ESOL Leads

ESOL providers should continue to discuss local ESOL needs with their local authorities.
