events - Regional Seminar on BIS Consultations
Tuesday 7 Sep, Government Office
On
22nd July, in a speech at Hackney College, John Hayes
launched two consultations that will have a significant
impact on the delivery and funding of adult learning. (To
access the Minister’s speech click on this link John Hayes
launches consultations on the future of further education
and skills). These are:
NIACE believes that the policy direction has much to be
commended but that the devil will be in the detail. How will
the freedoms and flexibilities that are proposed for
colleges and training organisations lead to better learning
opportunities for a wider range of adults?
What are the implications for providers? How will the
reinvigoration of adult and community learning play out
locally? What are the implications on minimum contract
values on the quality of provision, diversity and equality
of opportunity?
To discuss this further we are organising a regional seminar
on Tuesday 7 September, 2.00-4.30 at Government Office,
Eastbrook, Shaftesbury Road, Cambridge CB2 2DF. The purposes
of the seminar are to:
- Outline the proposals and give NIACE’s initial
reactions
- to encourage as many organisations as possible to
respond to the consultations
- to support organisations to explore the implications
of the proposals in the consultation documents with
colleagues in order to generate thinking, ideas and
common support to enhance their responses.
Whether you are already working on a response or have yet
to start, these seminars will provide a valuable opportunity
for face-to-face discussions with a range of colleagues from
across a number of sectors.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come
first-served basis. To secure a place on this event, please
return the
attached form to
steven.hartshorn@niace.org.uk by Wednesday 25
August.
I do hope that you can join us. In the meantime feel free to
contact me if you would like a discussion on NIACE’s
response to the consultations or any aspect of our work.
