raising the profile of the Third Sector
Through the development of learn East and its members
we have worked hard to show that the Third Sector is a
serious learning provider, and as such we have sought to
gain representation on National bodies to ensure that the
voice of the Third Sector is heard.
The project officer of the Suffolk Learning Consortium
has been working with four National bodies to gain
recognition and representation: NIACE / LSIS -
having been involved in the NIACE e-Guides and Advanced
e-Guides programmes, to cascade training to all learning
providers on the use of technology to enhance the delivery
of learning, we have been invited by LSIS to help develop
part of the new on-line Teacher Learning Centre, and as such
will do all we can to ensure that these new resources meet
the needs of the Third Sector as well as the Public and
Private Sectors. Institute for Learning (IfL) -
having signed up the the Volunteer Connections programme, to
provide an IfL 'expert' for Third Sector organisations in
Suffolk, we have now won the contract to be the IfL Regional
Advisor (albeit for the East Midlands region), which we see
as being recognition from the IfL that the Third Sector is a
serious provider in the learning sector. We will use this
opportunity to raise the profile of Third Sector learning
providers and some of the issues they face, in particular
with Teaching Qualifications. Centre of Excellence for
Teacher Training (CETT) - in the Spring of 2009 we were
invited to join the Sub-CETT for Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex,
and our attendance at their meetings and events (attended by
'grass roots' learning providers) quickly revealed that the
majority of news was being provided through us as we were
more aware of what was going on in the learning sector. As
such, when it came to looking for funding to carry on the
work of the East of England CETT, it was agreed to make a
joint application with learnEAST in recognition of
the Third Sector's active involvement in the learning
sector. We will continue to seek opportunities to raise
the profile of the Third Sector. |
